Overcoming People Looking Down On You for Being a Single Mom
Being a single mom comes with many different things, including being looked down upon by others. Staying confident and secure in yourself, as well as your mothering skills, is often difficult to do when you feel as if people are looking upon you as wrong or as lower in class than them. Overcoming this feeling of being watched and judged may not be easy, but it can be done to help you to quit feeling insecure and begin thinking of yourself in a more positive way. You may not be able to change people’s minds and judgments, but you can change the way that you react to them.
It takes a lot of courage to raise children on your own. Whether you are divorced or you are simply a single mom, you have made the decision to dedicate your life to raising a child, which you should be commended for. Single moms are responsible for their children on their own, which increases the respect that they should get. If you are not being respected by others, respect yourself. This is done by taking care of yourself and your needs. Whether it is a manicure, a massage, regular exercise, or just taking a little time for yourself, you are respecting yourself by giving yourself this time for recharging.
Don’t let yourself think negative about your situation. You are capable of taking care of your child or children as a single mom and can and will do a great job at it. Single moms take a lot of flack for being single moms, but it doesn’t have to affect you negatively. Tell yourself that you are a great mom and that you deserve respect. Let much of the negativity just roll off of your back and remember that you are doing a great job.
You don’t have to be super mom or think that you have to be super mom to be an excellent mom. Be who you are, rather than trying to be someone else. You can be yourself and still be a great mom and you will like this person even better than the imaginary person you are trying to be. No one is a perfect mom, but we keep trying. Be the best mom that you can be and be true to yourself. This can add to your confidence and your self-esteem.
Being looked down on because you are a single mom is not right, but there is really nothing that you can do about it. By increasing your self-confidence and becoming more comfortable with yourself, you will be able to better withstand these situations and ignore them as much as possible. It all comes down to loving yourself and being the best mom that you can be. Building a life with your child and raising them to be an independent responsible adult are your goals. No matter what anyone thinks, a single mom can raise a child in a healthy way. Keep that in mind to combat your insecurity.
