Challenges faced by single parents

Some couples find it difficult to raise a family, and the challenges faced by single parents out there are extremely daunting. The biggest problem most single parents have to deal with is the lack of financial security. Usually the mother of the child has a constant battle with the father of the child to pay support, even if there is a court order for him to pay, and he is quite capable of paying.

Then, because the mother has to work, her child or children have to be looked after during the day – proper day care facilities are sometimes not possible due to lack of adequate finances, and the children have to be left alone for the day, which of course, causes the mother unbearable stress. Single parents and their children very often live in poverty, have emotional problems, and have ill health as well as insecurity.

Another of the challenges faced by single parents, is when their children are of school-going age, and have to put up with comments from other children, and even sometimes teachers. This will make the child of a single parent feel deprived and inferior to other children.

Also, it is usually when the parent is feeling extremely tired or depressed that the child will become ill or difficult. It is at times like these that the parent will snap and feel guilty that he/she is not doing enough for the welfare of the child, and become even more depressed, which only aggravates the already difficult situation even more.
