Becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant
CNA can be a good career for single moms:
Nothing is more selfless than a career taking care of others. Making a decision to become a CNA or certified nursing assistant can help you to have a job that you will enjoy and one that will help you to take care of your family. Becoming a certified nursing assistant is not an easy thing, but it is something that will make you very proud and will give you an excellent career. What do you need to consider when you are thinking of going to school to become a certified nursing assistant?
Do you have your high school diploma or GED? This is a necessary part of being admitted into a CNA program. If you have a diploma, you are ready to look for a school. If you do not, you may have to go to a GED class and then pass the test to get your general equivalency diploma. This gives you the basis that is needed to get your CNA certification.
Where is a CNA program offered?
Do your research to determine where CNA programs are offered in your area. Many nursing homes, hospitals, and other healthcare establishments offer these programs and most colleges or technical schools also offer them. Find the one that fits your location needs, as well as your own time needs to ensure that you will be able to complete the program.
Check with your state registry or licensing program to see what the requirements are. This will vary depending upon the state and you want to be sure that you know exactly what you have to do to get your license and certification. You don’t want to go through the process of going to school, etc., and find that you have not met the requirements. Knowing what to expect before you begin is much more preferable than finding yourself lacking after you have went through all the effort.
See what the costs are.
Most CNA programs cost between $300 and $600. Oftentimes, financial aid is available for those that qualify. You want to begin this process early to ensure that there are no issues that crop up that will keep you from being able to go to school.
Do well in your classes.
Most programs are six weeks or less and this is very little time that you have to commit yourself to learning and doing your best. Study and follow the instructions of your teachers to ensure that you will complete the program and be able to get a job when you have your license.
Becoming a CNA can be a way for you to support and take care of your family. You only need to have a desire to care for others and a commitment to do well in the CNA program to find a job that you will enjoy and be proud to do. It will not be easy, but it can be well worth your time and effort to find a career that you love and enjoy. Find a CNA class and change your life today.
